The Community Groups Helping Bushmead Thrive

Written by Cedar Woods | 20 May 2026

Bushmead has always been designed to offer more than just a place to call home. Surrounded by retained bushland and shaped by a strong sense of community, it is a neighbourhood where connection and participation are part of everyday life.

Across the community, resident-led groups and local initiatives are helping bring neighbours together through shared interests, outdoor activities, conservation efforts and community events. From caring for the natural environment to creating opportunities for social connection, these groups play an important role in shaping the welcoming lifestyle Bushmead is known for.

Supported by Cedar Woods through the Bushmead Community Grants Program, many of these initiatives have continued to grow and thrive, helping foster a connected and engaged community where residents feel involved, supported and at home.

A community designed to bring people together

Bushmead has been carefully planned to encourage connection through its walkable streets, parks, trails and shared community spaces. With more than 185 hectares of retained conservation bushland, eleven kilometres of walking trails and multiple public open spaces, the community naturally creates opportunities for residents to meet, connect and spend time outdoors together.

This strong connection to both nature and neighbourhood helps shape the welcoming lifestyle Bushmead is known for, creating a community where residents feel involved, supported and genuinely connected to the people and places around them.

Meet Bushmead’s community groups

Bushmead Conservation Cobbers

The Bushmead Conservation Cobbers are a passionate resident-led group dedicated to protecting and preserving the community’s natural environment. Guided by the tagline “Caring for our bushland together”, the group brings residents together through planting days, bushcare working bees, community clean-ups and educational events focused on local wildlife and conservation.

Since forming, the group has planted more than 10,000 seedlings and contributed over 1,600 volunteer hours caring for Bushmead Reserve and surrounding parklands. Their initiatives have included guided wildflower walks, reptile education sessions, spotlighting walks and the installation of bandicoot bungalows to help support local quenda populations.

The group has also received ongoing support through the Cedar Woods Community Grants Program, with funding helping provide tools, planting materials and resources for conservation events and community activities.

Friends of Archerfield Park

Friends of Archerfield Park is another resident-led group helping maintain and enhance one of Bushmead’s most loved community spaces.

Focused on preserving the natural beauty and usability of Archerfield Park, the group contributes to the upkeep of landscaped areas and helps support a welcoming environment for residents to gather, relax and connect.

Community Grant funding has supported the purchase of gardening equipment, plant guards, stakes and other materials that assist with maintaining and improving the park environment.

As Archerfield Park continues to serve as a key community meeting place, the efforts of groups like Friends of Archerfield Park help strengthen the connection residents feel to the spaces they use every day.

Bushmead Social

Bushmead Social plays an important role in bringing neighbours together through regular community events and activities designed to foster connection and community spirit.

The group has helped organise events including twilight markets, movie nights, food truck evenings and other neighbourhood gatherings that encourage residents to meet, socialise and enjoy shared experiences together.

Support through the Community Grants Program has helped Bushmead Social continue expanding its calendar of events while also contributing to initiatives such as community street libraries within the estate.

These activities help create the friendly and welcoming atmosphere Bushmead is known for and contribute to the strong sense of belonging felt throughout the community.

Bushmead Community Inc.

Bushmead Community Inc. (BCI) acts as an umbrella organisation supporting the many resident-led groups, events and initiatives that continue to shape community life at Bushmead.

The organisation helps coordinate communication, promote local events and provide support to community groups through resources, event promotion and shared initiatives. Its role helps strengthen connections between residents while supporting the continued growth of community activities throughout the estate.
