Electricity savings for homebuyers as Eglinton Village set to be home to WA’s first community energy sharing network

In a first for Western Australia, Cedar Woods and Zenith Energy have announced a community energy sharing network as part of a new development in one of Perth’s fastest growing northern suburbs.

The joint initiative with leading Independent Power Producer, Zenith Energy gives households within the Eglinton Village master-planned community the option to communally generate, store and share renewable energy to power their homes via rooftop solar panels and a community battery.

For no upfront cost, buyers will pay 20 per cent less for their electricity consumption and reduce their carbon footprint by using at least 50 per cent renewable energy

Cedar Woods’ WA State Manager Ben Rosser said the opportunity for long-term energy savings is another great reason for buyers to choose Eglinton Village.

“This unique initiative, named Eve, is part of our wider vision for Eglinton Village to create a future-focused and connected community that offers residents a little more from life,” he said.

”Usually embracing a sustainable lifestyle would come at a monetary cost however with Eve there is only upside for homeowners that choose to participate in the initiative.”

“Not only will they receive the 20% savings on their energy use, but also save themselves the capital outlay of a solar energy system – on average $6,000 to $8,000 – and ongoing maintenance, which can add up quickly.”

“Local household electricity prices have increased 14% since 2016 and this trend is expected to continue – having access to more affordable energy will relieve significant cost pressures for residents and help them future-proof against rising living costs.”

“At Cedar Woods we are committed to planning for tomorrow and delivering long-term environmental and social benefits through initiatives like this, which is well aligned to our broader ESG strategy.”

Zenith Energy’s Managing Director and CEO, Hamish Moffat, said that Zenith Energy, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Eglinton Village Energy Pty Ltd (Eve), is proud to be partnering with Cedar Woods on the Western Australian first project, bringing their extensive experience in delivering innovative energy solutions to Eglinton Village.

“The way energy is generated, stored, and used is transforming at a rapid pace. Zenith Energy is excited to be working with Cedar Woods to deliver a microgrid to a primarily green-titled, residential estate for the first time in Western Australia”.

“We are delighted to work with Cedar Woods to help them deliver their vision for a greener community, whilst providing energy cost savings to residents of the Eglinton Village community who choose to opt-in to the hosting of the solar PV that will supply the Eglinton Village Microgrid. Eglinton Village Energy is a licensed energy retailer, which ensures residents of the Eglinton Village community have the benefit of the same consumer protections as customers of traditional energy retailers”, he said.

Buyer interest has been strong for Eglinton Village to date, within the popular and rapidly growing coastal suburb located 45 minutes northwest of Perth’s CBD, already selling into Stage 2 after launching earlier this year.

Eglinton Village is situated within 500 metres of the future Eglinton train station, is a convenient three-minute drive from the beach, and nearby shopping centres, schools and other amenities.
