Our favourite tips to stay busy at home

Father_and_daughter_reading_538x415

Staying at home doesn't have to be boring or isolating, with plenty of great online resources available to help you keep busy and stay socially connected. Here's a few of our favourites:

1. Read and watch:

Brisbane City Council offers free access to 150,000 eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and music and video streaming services. If you don't have a library card, apply at https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/things-to-see-and-do/council-venues-and-precincts/libraries

2. Explore

Some of the world's most famous art and science exhibits can now be 'visited' from your lounge room! Try Googling 'virtual tour' of The Louvre and The Smithsonian. You can even take a virtual tour of NASA' s Langley Research Centre!

3. Get gardening

Ellendale is known for its leafy green streets and landscaped gardens. Why not get your gloves on and show your plants some love? Don't forget to share your results with the hashtag #Ellendalegreenthumbs on our Instagram page!

4. Get moving

The Peloton app offers thousands of classes - including a mix of running, strength, toning, cycling, yoga, meditation and outdoor workouts - which are currently free to access. Visit www.onepeloton.com/app

5. Stay connected

Stay in touch with family and friends using Zoom or Messenger. These video call apps allow multiple people to be seen and heard on a single call. Visit zoom.us or messenger.com

6. Stay calm

Sign up for a free trial of a wellness app like Calm, which has a range of relaxing meditations, or Headspace, which has lots of great mental health tips and tools.

7. Have fun!

If you have kids, try Googling different animals (ie. tiger, shark). Click on 'see in 3D' to bring a life-sized, 3D version of that animal into your home in virtual reality!

Set up mini obstacle courses in your backyard, try a new recipe or learn a new skill together.

How are you spending your time at home? Share your ideas by using the hashtag #Ellendalefriends on our Instagram page.
