Ellendale Residents Step into Spring

Step into spring

Winter is almost behind us and spring just days away, so what better time to dust off your trainers and Step into Spring?

Cedar Woods will be running the eight-week Step into Spring initiative, which includes free fitness sessions at Ellendale Park and a Step Count Challenge.

Right now, is the perfect time to get outside in the warmer spring weather and enjoy Ellendale’s outdoor environment, including natural bush corridors, tree-lined streets, pathways, parks and playgrounds.

The benefits of exercising are plentiful and can include better concentration and learning, improved quality of life and enhanced social interaction.

We encourage residents to get involved in both initiatives outlined below!

Step into Spring Fitness Sessions

Local personal trainer Miranda from Enhance PT will be running fitness sessions at the Ellendale Park on Cascade Place from 8.30am to 9.15am each Saturday starting from August 21 for eight weeks, exclusively for Ellendale residents.

Miranda promises high-energy sessions that will leave participants upbeat and ready for the weekend.

Session numbers are limited so ensure you RSVP your attendance here https://bit.ly/3iYXBFr

Step Count Challenge

Don’t worry if you can’t make the fitness sessions because the Step Count Challenge takes place anytime, anywhere within Ellendale.

Participants can simply take part by taking a photo of themselves stepping out in Ellendale and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #stepintospringatellendale.

The goal is to reach 10,000 steps each day for the next eight weeks with one winner chosen from the photos on October 9. The winner will receive a food hamper from local suppliers and Nutri-bullet!

Why 10,000 steps? This is the recommended daily step target for adults to maximise and maintain a healthy lifestyle – you can find out more on your recommended target here: https://www.10000steps.org.au/articles/counting-steps/

Here’s a few tips to get you started:

  • Find a walking buddy who can share the journey with you and help keep you accountable.

  • Take a quick walk during your work breaks. Even if it’s just five or 10 minutes it all helps to get you closer to 10,000 steps.

  • Incorporate walking wherever you can. Taking the lift to your office floor? Why not try the stairs? Calling a colleague in the same building? Why not walk over to them? There are lots of ways you can step more.

  • Vist one of the numerous walking trails around Ellendale at Bellbird Grove, Enoggera Reservoir and Walkabout Creek within the beautiful D’Aguilar National Park.

  • Get out and about with the family on the weekends by visiting the Ellendale Park. Make the most of the outdoors and use the BBQ and picnic amenities, whilst taking in the view of the tall gums and backdrop of the D’Aguilar National Park.

Remember every journey starts with one step. We look forward to seeing all your photos on Instagram as you Step into Spring. Goodluck!
