Cedar Woods has announced the Victorian recipients of its Community Grants program for 2025, with funding allocated directly benefiting local communities where Cedar Woods’ developments are located.
We’re pleased to announce that five Whittlesea organisations have been selected as 2025 recipients, including Wollert Community Farm.
The Wollert Community Farm is a place for the local community to connect, learn and prosper through environmental and agricultural activities.
Developed as a partnership between Whittlesea Community Connections, Yarra Valley Water and Melbourne Polytechnic, and supported by the City of Whittlesea, the Farm is an environmental education hub and local food system that aims to restore nature and ensure that local community members can live and eat well.
We recently sat down with Viktor Faulknor (pictured above), Wollert Community Farm Lead, to learn a bit more about their organisation and how they plan to use their funding.
What is the mission and purpose of your organisation?
Nugal Biik Plants and Seeds is a Wollert-based production nursery specialising in indigenous flora native to Melbourne’s northern region. Operating as a social enterprise, the nursery supports local First Nations initiatives and conservation efforts connected to the Wollert Community Farm.
How did you hear about the Community Grants program and why did you decide to apply?
We weren’t aware of the community grants program until Cedar Woods approached us with the opportunity to apply. As a Wollert-based social enterprise, and with Mason Quarter being a new community developed by Cedar Woods in our area, it made perfect sense to seek support through the program.
How will you be using your funding and how will this help to support your organisation?
We want to establish a nursery volunteers group, with participation from local people interested in conservation and horticulture. This funding will help us buy needed equipment such as an additional potting up bench that supports volunteer group activities.
