The History Behind Millars Landing

The history of your neighbourhood. Made from a moment in time.

Millars Landing is full of rich history and residents share a proud connection to the heritage of Baldivis. Previously owned by Millars Timber and Trading Co. from 1912 To 1973, the land sits just south of the Jarrahdale train line (constructed in 1971) which was used to connect Millars Landing to their privately owned port in Rockingham, allowing Millars to export quality timber all around the world, including Paris, London and Glasgow.

The Tramway Reserve

The Tramway Reserve that runs along the entire estate, was created in the early 1920’s as the backbone of a temporary rail network built to enable the development of the Peel Estate by transporting harvested local timbers for use in furniture, building and railway construction out of the region; and the transport of construction and farming materials into the region.

Although the Tramway Reserve was never constructed, to honour its history, this area has been converted to the winding bushland walking trails within the estate you see today. These trails feature artwork from a local woodwork artist as well as an interactive activity to keep the kids entertained through the journey.

Locomotives

Millars Timer and Trading Co. had more than 40 steam locomotives working at their many sawmills across the state, 4 of these were used to connect Millars Landing with Millars’ Rockingham Port. Our Steamrail Adventure Park pays homage to Millars Landing’s proud history with its feature steam train and water tower-themed playground for people of all ages to enjoy.
