When the time comes to design your dream home, it’s essential to have an understanding of the latest trends that can help create calm, beautiful spaces, while enhancing the functionality of your home.
We spoke to Bold Living’s Studio Design Manager Georgie Child to get the download on what is trending and shaping the home design industry in 2023.
From soft edges and muted tones to living planter boxes and handcrafted tiles, there are a range of trends hitting the market right now to help homebuyers create personalised spaces, and that are sure to be embraced by Sage’s diverse community to elevate their homes.
SOFTEN THOSE EDGES
One of the stand-out trends in modern home design is the incorporation of soft edges and curves. From cabinetry to plasterwork, smooth contours add an elegant touch to living spaces.
Georgie says curved elements create fluidity, breaking away from rigid structures and promoting a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.
“Whether it’s through elegant lighting features, flowing countertops or spiral staircases, curves make a space feel tranquil and cosy,” she says.
LET THE LANDSCAPE IN
At Sage, we are enveloped by the natural beauty of the Moreton Bay region, so it’s no wonder residents are wanting to celebrate this landscape inside, and out.
The warm, earthy hues of muted clay and eucalypt green reflect the country's unique landscapes, evoking a sense of serenity and grounding.
“Taking tones from the landscape creates an inviting colour palette that generates a feeling of calm and safety,” says Georgie.
“This assists in developing a positive state of mind in the home environment.”
TEXTURE AND ACCENTS
Textured, natural materials are making their mark, adding depth and visual interest to living spaces.
Georgie recommends choosing timber flooring with natural grain patterns, fluted cabinetry profiling and panelling, to create balance in your home, blending natural materials with contemporary elements.
BRUSH THAT BRASSWARE
In pursuit of a lived-in feel, brushed bronze tapware and antique brass finishes have emerged as popular choices.
According to Georgie, these warm metallic tones exude a sense of sophistication and add a touch of vintage charm to modern homes.
“Using brass tapware and cupboard handles creates a unique character, transforming everyday, functional items into design statements,” she says.
RAW EDGES
Handcrafted tiles with raw edges are gaining popularity. These tiles often showcase imperfections and irregularities, adding character and charm to kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and even outdoor benchtops.
“The raw and artisan nature of these tiles celebrates individuality with no two tiles the same, adding a hint of ‘handmade’ to your home,” says Georgie.
MAKE IT WORK
With the rise of remote work and the need for functional home offices, study nooks have become a sought-after feature.
These dedicated spaces offer privacy and focus, allowing for productivity within the comfort of your home.
Georgie says study nooks can be seamlessly integrated into various areas, with some people choosing to add open-plan study stations with plaster board cutouts to allow connection to the family space, while others prefer the privacy of a cavity sliding door.
“This helps people make the most of ‘working from home’, while keeping it separate from their relaxation spaces,” she says.
DON’T FORGET THE OUTSIDE
The exterior of your home is not to be overlooked. As Georgie says, it’s the first thing that greets you when you arrive.
There’s been a shift towards cladded facades with warm timber elements and living planter boxes to add a touch of greenery.
“An attractive façade creates joy and pride when you return home each day,” she says.
“Connecting the outdoors with the in, ensures your home ‘flows’.”
