Ellendale: Where Nature and Community Connect

Written by Jonathon Nolan | 05 November 2026

At Ellendale, the landscape is more than a backdrop. It has helped shape the community from the outset.

Planning around nature

Located in Upper Kedron, 12 kilometres north-west of Brisbane's CBD, Cedar Woods' 227-hectare master-planned community has allocated 91 hectares to natural corridors and recreation space. Its design responds to the site's existing contours and vegetation.

Environmental rehabilitation works, including revegetation, nesting boxes, glider poles and fauna underpasses, are intended to support native habitats and wildlife movement. This approach received national recognition through the 2021 National Landscape Architecture Award for Land Management.

Creating community connections

Environmental considerations are only part of the story. Ellendale Park, walking and cycling connections, the Community Grants Program and local tree-planting activities provide opportunities for residents and community groups to come together.

Ellendale shows how a considered approach to the natural environment and community connection can help shape a neighbourhood over time.
