At Ellendale, our residents have one thing in common – they love living in a leafy locale.
Last Sunday, the community came together to celebrate National Tree Day, with 150 native trees planted in Ellendale’s nature corridors, and 300 plants gifted to residents to add extra greenery to their private gardens.
Residents also enjoyed free breakfast and coffee along with free kids’ entertainment including a face painter and balloon artist.
The tree planting and garden giveaway, was the first event of its kind at Ellendale and will now form part of Ellendale’s continuous landscaping and environmental care program.
More than 189,000 trees, shrubs and ground covers have been planted across Ellendale over the past six years – an effort which has seen the community awarded the 2021 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) National Landscape Architecture Award for Land Management.
The July tree planting event was conducted in partnership with Evolve and Place Design Group, which selected and assisted in the planting of native plants that would thrive in both bushland and resident’s backyards.
The day was a great success, with 300 residents working hand in hand to give back to the environment they call home.
Place Design Group Senior Landscape Architect Cathy Dibden said trees planted in the environmental corridors included Black Wattle, Red Ash, Small Fruited Grey Gum, Spotted Gum and Coffee Bush.
“These species were chosen because they are native, thrive in the Brisbane climate, require little maintenance and provide appropriate habitat for local wildlife,” she said.
Residents also had the opportunity to take home a variety of plants, including Lilly Pilly, Blue Lilly Pilly, Pink Cascade, Creek Bottlebrush, Rice Flower and Coastal Rosemary.
These are also native plants which adapt well to urban environments.
Thank you to each and every one of our residents who joined us in giving back to the Ellendale environment. We can't wait to see everyone again soon.
