Ellendale: A Community Making a Difference

From scoring goals on the football field to crafting high-tech robots, community groups across Brisbane’s northside are flourishing thanks to the Ellendale Community Grants.

Nestled in Upper Kedron and embraced by the stunning South D’Aguilar National Park, Ellendale is a masterplanned community making a real difference. With over 590 families calling Ellendale home, Cedar Woods is providing funding for local programs across the region.

Cedar Woods Properties Development Director Blair Britton said community groups were the lifeblood of Ellendale.

“This year we’ve distributed $10,000 in grants across four community groups to boost their programs and support new offerings,” Mr Britton said.

“This is a great way to show our appreciation and give back to those who have embraced our residents.”

“Ellendale is inherently connected to its wider community, and we’re incredibly proud to create spaces for residents and visitors to gather and live in balance with nature.”

“The Ellendale Community Grants demonstrate the core values embedded in Cedar Woods’ award-winning approach to community building.”

Ferny Grove State School P&C Vice President Cath Eurell shared the news of the school receiving a $5,000 grant, which facilitated the purchase of state-of-the-art robotics kits, allowing an expansion of their digital curriculum.

“This technology was at the top of our teachers’ wish list and the Ellendale Community Grant allowed us to expand the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program to the junior school and support our teachers,” Ms Eurell said.

“Using the kits, the students can program the robots as ‘bees’ and send them on a pathway. It’s a great way to introduce younger students to coding and making learning fun.

“This digital technology will benefit 300 students in the junior school cohort, and the school community is so grateful to Cedar Woods for providing this grant.”

Westside Grovely Football Club President Paul Anson said the club received a $2,000 grant to purchase new equipment which would make training sessions more effective and fun for the club’s 250 junior players.

“The aim of football is to score goals, and the younger players need a smaller goal suitable for them to develop their skills,” Mr Anson said.

“We can set the portable goals up in a game situation at the end of training sessions to make playing more realistic and engaging for our juniors.

"Grants like this are invaluable, as It would normally take us 12 to 18 months to save up for something like this.”

“Cedar Woods’ support is instrumental in fostering community sport and this funding will be put to excellent use at our club.”

The Samford Netball Club also received $1,000 to replace their field lightbulbs, ensuring the club can continue to provide a safe environment for its players, an essential upgrade which would have been difficult to fund without external support.

Additionally, the St John Wood/The Gap Conference of the St Vincent De Paul Society received $2,000 towards education costs, cost of living expenses, and the purchase of essentials such as sanitary items, nappies and baby formula.

The Ellendale Community Grants program will continue to ensure local groups continue to grow and prosper.
