Our community is proud to be able to help our local AFL club the Ferny Grove Falcons kick even more goals this year with a Community Grant.
In 2021 the Falcons were forced to close their canteen due to old equipment for the best part of a year, with funds from the grant now set to help the club get their canteen up and running again.
Club president Janne Barnes says the canteen is a key part of their players’ game-day experience.
“This grant from Ellendale is wonderful news and even more special because we celebrate 30 years as a club this year,” she says.
“We were forced to shut part of the canteen last year so weren’t able to offer some refreshments and snacks to our players and supporters, which was heartbreaking.”
These renovations mean we will now be able to offer a full service for our members, players, and visitors, helping the club grow their community engagement.
It will also be encouraging more kids from Ellendale and the wider local area to visit the club and get involved in AFL.
Janne says Ellendale has become a key part of the club’s community since its launch with the club now counting 180 players among its rosters.
“Many of our players come from the community, including the guy who runs our masters’ program so we’re just so grateful to have so much support,” she says.
Janne says the plan is to get the canteen fully renovated and operational by the end of the year.
The Community Grants program has run nationally for more than a decade, investing and supporting not-for-profit organisations. They are making a positive difference in our communities locally and across the country.
